(MAGWI COUNTY) – Partners implementing the Rural Enterprises for Agricultural Development (READ) Project have held introductory meetings with senior government leaders in Eastern Equatoria State to outline the programme’s objectives and expected benefits.
During an Implementation Supervision Mission, the project team paid courtesy visits to the Acting Governor of Eastern Equatoria State and the Magwi County Commissioner. The meetings provided an opportunity to formally introduce the project and to secure local leadership’s support for its activities.
Funded by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the READ Project is designed to strengthen food security and improve incomes for farmers in Eastern Equatoria State. It focuses on supporting rural enterprises, improving agricultural productivity, and increasing farmers’ access to markets.
According to project officials, READ will work with local communities to enhance farming techniques, introduce modern tools, and promote value chain development for crops produced in the region. Magwi County is expected to be one of the key beneficiary areas, given its strong agricultural potential and active farming communities.
Local authorities welcomed the project, noting that improving agricultural production is critical to reducing dependency on imported food and supporting rural livelihoods.
