(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Health authorities in Yei River County have on Friday announced a major mosquito net distribution campaign as malaria cases continue to rise sharply across the area.
Officials say more than 288 personnel will be trained to support the large-scale exercise, which will cover all five payams of the county. The training aims to ensure transparency, accountability, and proper delivery of mosquito nets to households.
Yei River County Commissioner, Samuel Henry Malimbo, has urged distribution teams to work fairly and ensure every household benefits without discrimination or corruption.
Health officials confirmed that the mosquito nets have already arrived in Yei following a national malaria prevention campaign launched in Juba. Authorities say about 3,600 dozens of nets have been delivered so far, with more supplies expected to exceed 7,000.
County Health Director Simon Sebit stressed that the nets are strictly for malaria prevention and should not be sold or misused. He also called on residents to cooperate during the exercise.
Medical experts report that malaria cases in Yei have increased by nearly 70 percent this year, highlighting the urgency of the intervention.
Residents have welcomed the initiative, describing mosquito nets as essential in protecting families from malaria but cautioning against misuse.
The distribution campaign forms part of broader efforts to reduce malaria infections and improve public health in Yei River County.
