(MAGWI COUNTY) – Senior officials from the South Sudan Revenue Authority have visited Nimule in Eastern Equatoria State to check on the construction of a new road leading from the customs exit to the Rock City parking yard.
The team included Colonel Wani Joseph Loku, who manages compliance, and Zizi Maksudi, who oversees trade facilitation.
The project is being managed by a company called Rhino Stars and Supply. While the work was meant to begin in July 2025, it did not start until November 2025.
The site engineer, Apollo Robert, said the delay was caused by a lack of money. He explained that even when the government approves payments, banks often do not have the physical cash available. This has made it hard for the company to pay local workers and buy the materials needed for the road.
During the visit, Colonel Loku spoke about disagreements with people living near the construction site. He told the builders to talk with the community to solve any problems peacefully.
One major worry involves a water pipe called a culvert. Some residents are afraid of flooding if the pipe is not put in, while others at Hai Kenissa Primary School fear the pipe will send water toward their building.
The engineer said they plan to meet with the school and the community to explain that the pipe will be placed exactly where the water used to flow naturally.
The South Sudan Revenue Authority stated that they want to make sure the road is finished properly while also listening to the needs of the local people.
The cost of such infrastructure projects remains high as the country manages its budget.
