(JUBA) – The Minister of Finance and Planning, Bak Barnaba Chol Bak, has joined education authorities in inaugurating a new office facility built with support from the World Bank to strengthen the work of the Ministry of General Education and Instruction.
The facility was officially opened on Wednesday in Juba and is part of wider efforts to improve education management and service delivery in South Sudan.
The project is implemented through a five year Project Implementation Unit funded by the World Bank under its human capital development programme. The initiative aims to support skills development and deepen cooperation with the government across key sectors.
The overall project is valued at 100 million United States dollars, equivalent to about 710 billion South Sudanese pounds, and focuses on expanding training opportunities in teaching and digital agriculture, as well as strengthening the management capacity of the education system.
Officials said the project includes five main components designed to improve teacher preparation, provide free professional training, and support volunteer teachers to improve their classroom skills.
Speaking at the ceremony, Bak said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to investing in citizens as the country’s most valuable resource.
He congratulated the Ministry of General Education and Instruction and its staff for their work in implementing the project and thanked development partners for their support.
He said the government appreciates the World Bank and other partners who have contributed time and resources to ensure the success of the programme.
The Finance Minister said education remains central to nation building and promotes accountability and transparency in public life.
He said the government will work to ensure that the project delivers lasting results and strengthens public confidence in state institutions.
The Minister of General Education and Instruction, Kuyok Abol Kuyok, described the facility as a major milestone that will support efforts to improve the quality and management of education across the country.
He said the new offices will enhance coordination, planning, and monitoring of education programmes.
The World Bank Education Team Leader, Tapfuma Ronald Jongwe, reaffirmed the institution’s continued support for government reforms in the education sector.
He said the Bank remains committed to helping South Sudan build a skilled workforce and strengthen human capital development.
