(Aweil) – Star International University has held its fourth graduation ceremony, conferring degrees and diplomas on 90 students from its campuses in Aweil and Juba.
The event marked a significant moment for both the students and the institution, as it continues to expand its educational presence in South Sudan.
The ceremony brought together a wide range of guests, including university staff, families of the graduates, and senior government officials.
Among the key speakers was Senior Presidential Advisor Kuol Manyang Juuk, who encouraged the graduates to focus on job creation through entrepreneurship and agriculture. He emphasised the importance of self reliance, noting that graduates should not depend solely on government employment but explore opportunities in private and productive sectors.
The Chancellor of the University, speaking at the event, expressed optimism about the institution’s future. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to quality education and welcomed new students who may wish to join in the coming academic years.
He praised the hard work and resilience of the graduates, many of whom completed their studies despite economic hardship and limited infrastructure.
The diverse academic backgrounds of the graduating class were also highlighted, showcasing a wide range of faculties and programmes that the university has developed to meet South Sudan’s growing need for educated professionals.
Graduates represented fields such as business administration, education, public health and information technology.
The presence of guests from both Aweil and Juba branches illustrated the university’s ambition to become a national institution serving all regions.
Families, friends, and local leaders were visibly proud of the students, some of whom are the first in their families to earn a higher education qualification.
