(JUBA) – A delegation from Morobo County has met Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony to discuss security, peacebuilding and development concerns affecting the county.
The meeting took place in Juba on Wednesday 25 February 2026, according to the Office of the Governor of Central Equatoria State.
Community leaders from Morobo County said security and stability remain key priorities for residents. They also raised development needs and called for closer cooperation between the state government and local authorities.
Both sides stressed the need for joint efforts to address ongoing challenges in Morobo County and to improve services for communities.
In a related development in Morobo County, local authorities have arrested six people for allegedly defying a county order banning the cultivation of tobacco.
Morobo County Commissioner Data Bullen Charles said the arrests were made on Monday after the individuals were found growing tobacco despite a directive prohibiting the crop.
He said some of those detained had previously been warned over similar violations.
The commissioner said the county administration imposed the ban because tobacco farming is believed to damage soil quality and reduce agricultural productivity. He added that applications to grow tobacco were rejected in 2024, but some farmers planted the crop without approval.
“We only realised when the tobacco was already ready for consumption,” Charles said.
He said the same group resumed large scale cultivation this year, prompting action by the authorities.
According to the commissioner, those detained will be required to uproot the tobacco and use the land to grow food crops in line with county regulations aimed at protecting soil and supporting food production.
Morobo County, which borders Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, has faced recurring security and economic pressures in recent years.
State officials say improved coordination between county and state authorities is essential to strengthen stability and support agriculture across Central Equatoria State and South Sudan more widely.
