Displaced Residents Return to Mirikiyo After Security Restored

(JUBA COUNTY) – Residents displaced from Mirikiyo Boma in Juba County have returned home following the restoration of security in the area, local authorities confirmed.

The Commissioner of Juba County, Hon. Emmanuel Tete Ezbon, said 2,031 residents who had been sheltering at Rokon Payam headquarters were transported back to their homes on Wednesday, 28 January 2026, after officials verified that the area was calm and secure.

Two individuals who had been held captive during the recent unrest were also released on the same day.

Hon. Ezbon assured residents that security forces remain deployed in the area to maintain order and prevent further incidents.

The return followed an official visit to the affected area by the Commissioner and a delegation tasked with assessing security and normalcy before approving the residents’ return.

The delegation included Hon. Angelo Daya, Advisor on Security and Peace; State Members of Parliament Hon. Joyce Hadia Lino and Hon. Jackline Apath; and the Commissioner of Terekeka County, Dr. Emmanuel Loku Lodu.

Authorities report that daily activities have resumed and residents are continuing their lives in a peaceful environment.
