(MOROBO COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Morobo County, Hon. Charles Data Bullen, has called on residents across the county to remain calm, peaceful and alert following a clash between forces of the South Sudan People Defence Forces and the Sudan People Liberation Army In Opposition in Panyume Payam on Tuesday morning.
The Commissioner made the call during an emergency meeting held in the afternoon at the C Court Hall. The meeting brought together local government officials, religious leaders, community elders and security organs. He said the incident led to fear among residents, which was made worse by false and exaggerated information shared on social media.
Hon. Data said misleading reports caused panic in parts of the county, with some people believing that Morobo was about to be taken over. He said such information was not accurate and urged residents to seek facts from official sources before reacting.
He also addressed concerns linked to Morobo County being close to the international border. The Commissioner said this should not push citizens to flee to neighbouring countries in search of safety. He asked residents to remain in their communities and avoid spreading messages that could create instability.
Hon. Data reassured the public that the situation in Morobo town and at the county headquarters was calm and under control. He said government offices, markets and businesses were open and operating as normal, although people remained cautious.
The Commissioner urged the public to cooperate with security organs, depend on verified information from authorities and continue to promote peace, unity and stability. He said calm and responsible action by citizens was important for security in Morobo and for wider stability in South Sudan.
