(MOROBO COUNTY) – At least three abducted civilians, including a school-going pupil, have safely escaped from captivity after being taken by armed assailants in Aworo Village, Lujulo Payam, Morobo County last week.
The victims were reportedly abducted during a night-time incident and are believed to have been held by forces linked to the National Salvation Front (NAS). Their safe return was confirmed on Wednesday through an official statement shared on the county commissioner’s Facebook page.
According to the statement, the abductees endured harsh conditions while in captivity. They were stripped of their belongings, had their hands tied, and were forced to trek long distances through the bush over several days.
Despite the difficult circumstances, the three individuals managed to escape and successfully reunite with their families in Morobo County.
Morobo County Commissioner Joseph Mawa personally received the survivors and provided them with psychological support and reassurance. He encouraged residents to remain vigilant and to report any security concerns to the relevant authorities.
Commissioner Mawa strongly condemned the actions of the suspected NAS group, describing them as “anti-peace.” He emphasized that civilians should not be targeted or coerced into joining armed groups.
The incident highlights ongoing security concerns in parts of the region, with authorities urging continued cooperation from communities to help maintain peace and safety.
