(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Yei River County, Emmanuel Taban Seme, has received a state appointed committee tasked with assessing the condition of the Yei Electricity Power Station, which has been out of service for several years.
The committee was formed by the Central Equatoria State Governor, Emmanuel Adil Anthony, under Gubernatorial Order Number 14 of 2026, issued on 5 February 2026. It was mandated to carry out a full technical review of the facility.
According to the mandate, the team will examine the general state of the power station, test the working condition of its equipment, review maintenance records, and determine whether the plant can be restored to operation.
Speaking in Yei on Tuesday, 10 February 2026, Commissioner Taban welcomed the initiative and thanked the state government for giving priority to electricity challenges in the county and wider South Sudan.
He gave the committee full authority to carry out its work and urged members to conduct a careful, accurate, and open assessment to support informed decisions on possible repairs and rehabilitation.
The Commissioner said restoring power supply was vital for economic activity, health services, education and small businesses in Yei and neighbouring areas.
On behalf of the committee, John Bullen, First Director General in the State Ministry of Housing, Lands and Public Utilities, thanked the county authorities for their cooperation and support.
He said the team was committed to producing professional and reliable findings in line with the governor’s directive and national development goals.
The assessment is expected to guide future plans to improve electricity supply and support recovery and development in Yei River County and across Central Equatoria State.
