(JUBA) – The Minister of Trade and Industry, Atong Kuol Manyang, has met a delegation of Egyptian business groups in Juba to discuss ways to expand trade, investment, and industrial cooperation between South Sudan and Egypt.
The meeting, held on Tuesday, 11 February 2026, focused on strengthening economic ties and supporting South Sudan’s efforts to improve local production, job creation, and access to essential goods.
During the discussions, the Egyptian delegation presented a range of investment opportunities and products they plan to introduce to the South Sudanese market. These included pharmaceutical supplies aimed at improving access to quality health products and technology services to support digital systems and modern infrastructure.
The delegation thanked the Minister for the reception and for giving them the opportunity to present their business plans for South Sudan. They said they were interested in building long term partnerships that would benefit both countries.
Minister Atong Kuol Manyang welcomed the interest shown by the Egyptian companies and said Egypt had remained a reliable partner to South Sudan through education support, training programmes and other development initiatives.
She said the Ministry of Trade and Industry was working to promote industrial growth to help the country compete in regional and international markets. She added that expanding local manufacturing and processing was key to reducing imports and strengthening the economy.
The Minister highlighted several priority projects open to foreign and local investors, including fruit canning factories to add value to agricultural produce and gum arabic production to increase export earnings.
She said such investments would support farmers, create employment, and improve incomes in both rural and urban areas across South Sudan.
The Ministry also thanked Ambassador Kang Gatkuoth for his role in supporting international business links and facilitating cooperation with foreign partners.
Trade and Industry Ministry officials said the meeting marked another step in efforts to attract responsible investment and promote sustainable economic development in South Sudan.
