
South Sudan Seeks American Industrial Partners/PHOTO CREDITS: Press Unit, Ministry of Trade and Industry, South Sudan
(JUBA) – The National Minister of Trade and Industry, Atong Kuol Manyang, met with the United States Ambassador to South Sudan, Michael Adler, on Tuesday.
The meeting in Juba focused on making trade relations stronger and building deeper economic links between the two countries.
Both officials used the talk to find new ways to work together and to help create a better environment for investment within South Sudan.
Ambassador Adler thanked the Minister for the welcome and said again that the United States wants to help South Sudan find lasting peace.
However, the Ambassador also spoke about the difficult humanitarian situation in Jonglei State and other areas. He asked for better cooperation from the government to keep aid workers safe and voiced worries about reports that officials have been interfering in humanitarian work.
He described the connection between the two countries as being like siblings and said the United States remains a close partner to the people of South Sudan.
Minister Atong Kuol Manyang noted the important role the United States played when South Sudan became independent in 2011. She said her ministry is very keen to work with American businesses.
She specifically mentioned interest in industrial production as a way to grow the economy and collect more national revenue.
The Minister explained that a peaceful country is necessary for trade and business to do well. She said that stability gives young people in South Sudan the chance to find work and succeed.
She also thanked President Salva Kiir Mayardit for supporting the work of the ministry and for helping the business community.
At the end of the meeting, the Minister thanked the Ambassador for his visit and said the ministry is ready for partnerships that modernise the economy and make life better for citizens.
