
South Sudan Statisticians to Get Training in Rwanda/PHOTO CREDITS: NBS
(KIGALI, RWANDA) – The Director General of the South Sudan National Bureau of Statistics has held a high level meeting with the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda in Kigali.
This visit focused on building a new partnership to help South Sudan improve its national data systems.
During the talks, the Director General of the Rwanda institute, Ivan Murenzi, and his deputy, Jean Claude Nyirimanzi, discussed how Rwanda can offer technical help to South Sudan.
Rwanda is currently seen as a leader in data science within the region, and this meeting marks a major step in strengthening the institutions of South Sudan.
The cooperation aims to use the experience of Rwanda to help the South Sudan National Bureau of Statistics in several key areas.
These include training programmes for staff and modernising how data is collected and processed.
The two countries also plan to work together on using new technologies for analysing data as it is gathered.
Other important areas of the partnership include improving mapping for population and economic surveys and making sure that the methods used for data collection meet high international standards.
The National Bureau of Statistics in South Sudan thanked the Rwandan officials for their warm welcome and for hosting the visit.
They described the meeting as a foundation for future projects that will help the government make better decisions based on accurate information.
Financial costs for the international training programme was not listed in the official statement.
