(JUBA COUNTY) – Leaders of Wonduruba Administrative Payam met Central Equatoria State Governor Rabi Mujung Emmanuel on Thursday to give an update on the security situation and ongoing development efforts in the area.
The delegation said peace has largely returned, allowing people to resume farming and trade, but warned that progress may stall without support.
Community representative Hon Towongo said the main issues discussed with the Governor included the repair of the road that links Wonduruba to Gorom and Juba, the improvement of health and education services and programmes to support women and young people. He said that as stability grows, more residents are returning to their gardens and fields, but they lack tools and seeds.
Towongo appealed to non governmental organisations to begin operating in the area, saying there is currently none on the ground. He urged both the State government and aid partners to step in and help farmers increase production.
He also called on administrators from Wonduruba who are now living in Juba to go back and serve in their communities.
Governor Mujung said unity between local leaders and the State government is important for growth. He promised continued support to improve basic services and security.
The Wonduruba delegation included the community chairperson, lawmakers, religious figures and representatives of women and youth.
The press unit of Central Equatoria said the meeting was part of wider efforts by the State government to work more closely with communities on peace and development.
