India Urged to Back Media Development in South Sudan
(JUBA) – Leaders of the Union of Journalists of South Sudan met the Indian Ambassador to South Sudan Anil Nautiyal at the Indian Embassy in Juba on Thursday.
The visit was held as part of efforts to build a working partnership between the media body and the embassy.
The discussion focused on training and professional growth for South Sudanese journalists. Members of the Union shared the challenges they face in newsrooms, including a lack of access to modern skills and tools.
They asked the embassy to help them secure training under India’s ITEC programme, which supports media and technical studies.
The Indian Ambassador welcomed the delegation and listened to their ideas on how the two sides could cooperate. The Union said it looks forward to sending more journalists for training abroad and hopes India will become a key partner.
In a statement after the meeting, the Union said it values the openness of the Indian Embassy and believes this first engagement will lead to stronger cooperation. They said they hope the visit will mark the beginning of regular knowledge exchange between the two sides.
No funding commitments were made during the meeting, but the Union believes stronger partnerships will improve the quality of news and information in South Sudan.
