(JUBA COUNTY) – Governors Emmanuel Adil Anthony of Central Equatoria State and Madhang Majok Meen of Lakes State have formed a joint committee to address border-related concerns between their states.
The move follows tensions during the re-launch of the Juba-Bhar-el-Ghazel road on 24 January 2026, where communities along the shared border disputed the territorial boundaries of Terekeka and Awerial counties.
The committee will be co-chaired by the State Ministers of Local Government and include the chairpersons of the Peace and Conflict Resolution Commissions, leaders from the Mundari and Aliab communities, youth representatives, and two Members of Parliament from the two communities.
Its mandate is to promote peaceful coexistence along the border, coordinate with the commissioners of Awerial, Yirol, and Terekeka counties, and oversee other initiatives aimed at maintaining harmony.
Both Governors called on border communities to remain calm and cooperate, emphasising the long historical ties that link the people of the two states.
