(JUBA, CENTRAL EQUATORIA) – Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony has launched the construction of a Peace Hub at the Ministry of Peace Building premises in Central Equatoria State.
The facility is designed to support the state government’s efforts to strengthen peace initiatives and represents a key step in the region’s development.
Governor Adil said the hub will provide a space where government officials, civil society organisations, community leaders and peace partners can work together to encourage reconciliation and unity among local communities.
He affirmed the state government’s commitment to lasting peace, highlighting the importance of sustainable peace programmes, local ownership of initiatives, capacity building, and the inclusion of women and youth as key actors in promoting stability.
Hon. Pia Phillip Michael, Undersecretary in the National Ministry of Peace Building, welcomed the project, noting the hub will offer more than a space for dialogue. It is intended to support trauma healing and reconciliation efforts across communities.
Hon. Jacob Aligo Lo-Lado, Central Equatoria State Minister of Peace Building, said the facility will help promote a culture of peace and advocate for community driven solutions to conflicts once it is complete.
Sheila Ngatia, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative for Programmes in South Sudan, explained the hub will host capacity building activities, strengthen community connections and address the root causes of conflicts through dialogue and safe spaces.
The Peace Hub project is expected to take four months to complete, with funding provided by UNDP and other peace partners.
