(JUBA COUNTY) – A peace conference bringing together leaders and communities from Central Equatoria and Western Equatoria states has opened in Rokon Payam to address cattle raids, insecurity and inter communal tensions.
Delegates from Juba, Terekeka, Mundri East and Mundri West counties are attending the meeting, which aims to promote dialogue and coordination among communities and local authorities. Participants include county officials, traditional leaders, security representatives, youth and women groups.
The conference is focused on resolving recurring cattle related conflicts, improving security cooperation and strengthening peaceful coexistence across neighbouring areas. Officials said discussions are centred on practical solutions to reduce violence and build trust between communities.
On the second day, delegates moved into group discussions to examine key issues affecting the two states. These include security concerns, cattle raiding, inter communal relations and ways to support lasting peace and reconciliation.
Participants are expected to develop recommendations and resolutions to guide joint action by authorities and communities in preventing further conflict and improving stability in affected areas.
The meeting is being held under joint state leadership with support from the United Nations Mission in South Sudan.
Access Radio previously reported that eleven recovered cattle were returned in Rokon Payam as part of ongoing cooperation between Central Equatoria and Western Equatoria states.
A press release from the County Commissioner’s Office said the move was aimed at easing tensions and restoring trust between communities affected by cattle theft.
