(JUBA COUNTY) – Authorities in Central Equatoria State and Western Equatoria State have returned eleven recovered cattle in a joint effort to reduce tensions and rebuild trust between communities affected by cattle raiding.
The handover took place in Rokon Payam on Wednesday as part of ongoing cooperation between the two states under the Rokon Peace Consensus.
The initiative focuses on addressing cattle theft, easing inter communal tensions and supporting peaceful coexistence.
County Officials from both States said the return of the livestock is intended to show progress in resolving disputes linked to cattle raiding, which has been a source of conflict between communities in the two states.
The exercise was overseen by senior state representatives, who said cooperation between authorities remains key to preventing further incidents and maintaining stability in affected areas.
They said both states will continue to work together to trace and return stolen cattle to their rightful owners, and to promote dialogue among communities to avoid future conflicts.
A press release by the Office of the County Commissioner of Juba stated joint effort is part of wider measures aimed at strengthening peace and improving relations between neighbouring communities in South Sudan.
