(NIMULE, EASTERN EQUATORIA) – Authorities in Nimule Municipality have recovered 236 cattle stolen from Amuru district, Uganda, in a cross border raid on 26th January 2026.
The recovery was the result of a joint operation involving the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF), Community Mobilization Initiative (CMI), and the Tiger Division. Security forces engaged with the perpetrators, but no casualties were reported.
Of the 354 cattle stolen, 118 remain missing. Efforts are ongoing to recover the remainder of the herd.
The recovered cattle were handed over on 2 February 2026 to the Resident District Commissioner of Amuru, Mr. Ocheng Geofry Osborn. Mr. Osborn commended the swift response of the South Sudan authorities and security personnel involved, and thanked H.E. Louis Lobong Lojore for supporting the operation.
The Nimule Municipal Council highlighted the operation as part of broader measures to strengthen cross-border security, prevent livestock theft, and protect the livelihoods of local communities.
In related developments, the Nimule Municipality has been working with the SPLM State Secretariat to support voluntary repatriation of South Sudanese refugees from Uganda through initiatives such as SPLM membership ID production, which has encouraged the return of families to the Madi Corridor.
