The governor of South Sudan’s Central Equatoria State Emmanuel Adil has appealed to the head of the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), Edi Ferdinand to support the rehabilitation of medical units in Yei and Kajo-Keji Counties. In a press release issued by the office of the Governor on Wednesday it said
Governor Adil commended the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)—for their extensive outreach, mobile clinics, and maternal-child health services. For his part, the head of Mission of the Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), Edi Ferdinand Atte briefed Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony on the overall activities of the International Medical Charity as the Mission nears its conclusion. Ferdinand said;“Adil has issued an appeal for concerted efforts to fully rehabilitate maternal wards, mortuaries, and HIV facilities in Yei and the immediate fencing of Kajo-Keji Civil Hospital alongside continuous staff motivation and care improvements”
“Despite global financial constraints, MSF pledged to maintain support as the Mission transitions toward more localized management with the State Government while calling for unhindered access for all humanitarian operations across the state”The two senior officials made the remarks during a high-level meeting held at the state secretariate on Wednesday. The meeting centered on coordinated efforts in streamlining and improving health services within the health sector. As leaders embark on top-top level engagements, residents at the grass root levels especially in Tore Payam of Yei River County say, the health situation is worsening as residents resort to local herbs for treatment due to lack of medical supplies and qualified medical personnel in the Payam. Residents say they are forced to walk long distances of about 48 miles to Yei town in search of better medical services.
