(TEREKEKA COUNTY) – Authorities in Terekeka County have adopted a resolution aimed at ending violence between the Yari and Koggi communities and restoring peace in the area.
The resolution calls for justice for victims of the conflict, community dialogue and the creation of a committee to oversee reconciliation efforts. It also includes a temporary measure that restricts people from remaining in the Yari and Koggi areas until further notice as part of efforts to prevent further clashes.
Officials said the steps are intended to stop repeated cycles of violence and support peaceful relations between the two communities.
Under the agreement, those responsible for violence must face legal action. Leaders also agreed to organise a community conference that will bring together residents, elders and other stakeholders to discuss solutions and rebuild trust.
A special committee will be formed to guide reconciliation activities and monitor the implementation of the peace measures agreed during the meeting.
The session brought together representatives from national and state government, members of parliament, county officials and leaders from the local community. Religious leaders, youth representatives, women representatives and persons with disabilities also took part in the meeting.
Traditional leaders from the Council of Chiefs and representatives of the Mundari community attended, along with officials from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement at the Payam level.
Representatives from PAX organisation and other partners also participated in the discussions as part of wider support for peace and community dialogue in the county.
Later during the meeting, Terekeka County Commissioner Dr Emmanuel Loku Lodu endorsed the agreed resolutions and formally closed the session on the conflict resolution document.
Local authorities say the measures are expected to support reconciliation and help restore peace and stability between the Yari and Koggi communities in Terekeka County.
