(JUBA) – The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority has announced major reductions in aviation fees in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s air transport sector and making travel more affordable for passengers.
The reforms were introduced under the leadership of the Director General, Ayiei Garang Deng Ayiei, and cover both domestic and international operations. They include reduced charges for landing, parking, passenger services, and air navigation, as well as a twenty per cent cut in overflight fees.
The Authority said the new measures are intended to ease operating costs for airlines, encourage more flights through South Sudan’s airspace, and support lower ticket prices for travellers.
Ayiei said that in the past year, several airlines reduced their services or withdrew from the country because of high charges. He said the Authority is now addressing these challenges to restore confidence in the sector.
He added that airline operators have welcomed the reforms and have pledged to pass on the savings to passengers through reduced fares.
The Director General said the changes reflect a commitment to create a fair and supportive environment for aviation companies while improving access to air travel for the public.
He also announced plans to review other airport related fees and to introduce digital systems for airport operations. He said these steps will improve efficiency, accountability, and transparency across the sector.
The Authority said the reforms mark the start of wider changes aimed at making South Sudan more competitive in regional and international aviation.
Ayiei said that by reducing air navigation fees, the country is opening its skies to more traffic, fair competition, and affordable travel for citizens and visitors.
