Bank Says No Staff Will Ask for Your PIN or CVV
(JUBA) – The Co-operative Bank of South Sudan has warned its customers not to share their banking details with anyone. The bank said it will never call and ask for information such as your PIN, card number, or the three digits on the back of your card known as the CVV.
The bank explained that criminals are using tricks to try to steal money from customers. These scams often come through phone calls or messages that look official but are fake. Anyone who shares their details with such callers risks losing their money.
The Co-operative Bank asked customers to report any suspicious calls or messages straight away. People can report by calling 0929001224 or by sending an email to customerservice@co-opbankss.com. The bank said it will take action quickly to protect accounts when cases are reported.
The warning comes at a time when more people in South Sudan are using bank cards, mobile payments, and other digital services. This has made banks and customers a bigger target for fraudsters. The bank said that customer awareness is just as important as security systems in preventing fraud.
Branches of the Co-operative Bank are found in Juba, Malakia, Nimule, Kololo, Wau, Gumbo and Gudele. The bank is licensed and supervised by the Bank of South Sudan.
The bank also shared a simple guide on what customers should never share with anyone:
| Do Not Share | What It Is | Why It Is Risky |
|---|---|---|
| PIN | Personal Identification Number | Gives fraudsters access to your account |
| CVV | Three digits on the back of your card | Can be used for online payments |
| Full Card Number | The entire number on your card | Allows scammers to control your card use |
