MTN Issues Scam Warning to Mobile Users in South Sudan
(JUBA) – MTN South Sudan has warned mobile users in the country about an online scam that is spreading on social media, urging the public not to click on suspicious links that claim to offer prizes or quick rewards.
According to the company, the scam asks users to answer a set of questions before directing them to a WhatsApp page. MTN said screenshots of the fake website have been shared to help the public recognise the fraudulent link and avoid falling victim to it.
The company stressed that it does not send links to customers and does not request one time passwords, personal information or payments in any form. MTN added that all its official announcements are made only through its verified Facebook page.
In its advisory, MTN urged the public to ignore links that claim users have won money or lottery prizes, warning that such claims are common tools used by online fraudsters. The company encouraged customers across Juba and other parts of the country to remain alert as more scams continue to appear online.
Below is a simple summary of MTN’s advisory:
| Issue | MTN Explanation |
