
Ruto Meets Church Leaders from South Sudan/Handout
(NAIROBI) – Kenya’s President William Ruto has said his government will continue to support regional work aimed at helping South Sudan strengthen peace, political dialogue and stability.
He spoke after meeting the South Sudan Council of Churches in Nairobi, where church leaders shared their concerns about the current situation in the country.
President Ruto said Kenya believes that peace in South Sudan is important for the progress of the entire region and added that his country will keep working with partners to support unity and national development.
He said Kenya is committed to helping South Sudan move forward with its political and constitutional processes as it prepares for the national elections set for December 2026.
During the meeting at State House in Nairobi, the South Sudan Council of Churches called for increased support for peace efforts, more open political discussions, and progress on the drafting of a permanent constitution.
They also urged continued help to make sure that the coming elections are organised in a fair and peaceful way.
President Ruto said Kenya will work closely with all groups involved to help South Sudan remain on the path of reconciliation and democratic progress.
He said Kenya values the role of the church in promoting peace and unity and will continue to engage with all partners who support stability in the country.
He added that a peaceful and secure South Sudan benefits not only its own people but the wider East African region.
