(Juba) – A new Christian church, the Reconciliation Ministry Church, was officially opened on Saturday at New Site-Sabur in Juba. The inauguration was marked by calls from both religious and government leaders for peace, reconciliation, and unity across South Sudan.
The Director of the Bureau of Religious Affairs in the Office of the President, Moses Telar, was among the key figures who attended the ceremony.
In his remarks, Telar called on church leaders to actively spread messages of peace and healing. He said faith leaders must play a central role in strengthening national unity and securing long-term stability.
“The government supports all peace and reconciliation programmes, and churches are an important partner in this effort,” Telar said. He encouraged all religious institutions to continue contributing to peacebuilding across communities.
Also speaking at the event, Reverend Sabino Daniel of the House of God for All Nations urged South Sudanese citizens to pray for peace and national reconciliation.
He said the country could only move forward through forgiveness, unity, and consistent efforts to rebuild trust among communities.
In her address, a church mother also appealed to all believers to seek divine blessings through prayer and to ask for continued government support for peace efforts. She emphasized the role of women and families in fostering unity within their communities.
Pastor Akal, who leads the Reconciliation Ministry Church, said the opening of the church marks a new chapter in serving the spiritual needs of the local population.
He said the mission of the church is to share the Word of God, provide spiritual guidance, and promote peace among believers and wider society.
The inauguration ceremony brought together church leaders, government representatives, and worshippers from across Juba.
The gathering was filled with prayer, singing, and messages of hope for the future of the country. Many who attended said the church’s mission of reconciliation is timely and much needed as South Sudan continues to recover from years of conflict.
South Sudan, which gained independence in 2011, has faced ongoing challenges related to conflict, displacement, and rebuilding national identity.
Religious leaders have historically played a strong role in the country’s peace processes, particularly during times of civil strife.
The Reconciliation Ministry Church is expected to host regular worship services, offer counselling and outreach programmes, and engage youth and families in peace education.
