Yei Council Vows to Recover Transferred Garbage Truck

(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Chairperson of the Yei River County Legislative Council has pledged to investigate and recover a public garbage collection truck that was reportedly transferred to Juba City Council, following growing public concern over its disappearance.

The controversy emerged last week when Yei River County Public Health Officer, Juma Ismail, alleged that senior officials were behind the transfer of the truck to City Link Aviation Company in exchange for another vehicle to operate in Yei. According to Ismail, the agreement was violated after the county received an old and faulty truck that has since developed engine problems and remains grounded.

Responding to the public outcry, Legislative Council Chairperson Cladio Mila told Access Radio on Wednesday that the transfer of the public asset was carried out illegally and without the council’s approval. Mila said the council had rejected the move from the outset and would summon those responsible for taking the truck to Juba.

“The council rejected the transfer of the truck and the public wants the vehicle returned to Yei. As a council, we condemned and rejected the transfer. We shall summon the people who took the truck to Juba and, together with the county executive council, investigate the matter and help recover the truck and return it to Yei,” Mila said.

The county legislative body says it remains committed to protecting public assets and ensuring accountability in the management of county resources.
