(JUBA) – The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, on Friday presided over the swearing in of two senior officials, Hon. Nyarsuk Patrick as State Minister of Information and Communication and Hon. Mustafa Karijo as Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission.
Speaking during the ceremony in Juba, Mujung urged the new officials to prioritise service delivery and assured them of his full support. He tasked the Information Minister to ensure that government communication reaches citizens effectively, with a focus on promoting peace, reconciliation and unity.
“As a government spokesperson, you are serving the people, not the party,” the Governor told the new Information Minister.
Turning to the Human Rights Commission Chairperson, Governor Mujung emphasised the need to strengthen protection and promotion of human rights in the state.
He acknowledged concerns from the international community about South Sudan’s human rights record and expressed confidence that with experience and commitment, the new commission leadership could help raise awareness and encourage best practices.
Rt. Hon. Isaac Aloro, Acting Speaker of the State Revitalized Transitional Legislative Assembly, called on the newly appointed officials to work closely with the state leadership to achieve common goals.
In his remarks, Hon. Nyarsuk Patrick described his appointment as “a call for responsibility, especially from the youth,” and pledged to serve collectively with other leaders.
Hon. Mustafa Karijo, while expressing gratitude for the trust placed in him, stressed the importance of ensuring that rights are respected and that citizens are educated on their responsibilities under the law.
Other political leaders present also offered words of encouragement. Hon. Nyibol Ding Kiir of the Other Political Parties (OPP) expressed readiness to work with all sides to promote youth unity, while Hon. James Lado of the National Agenda urged leaders to put aside political differences and focus on restoring hope for the people of Central Equatoria.
