(Juba) – The South Sudan Football Federation (SSFF) has approved significant changes to its General Regulations in a move aimed at improving club operations and player discipline.
The decision was reached during the Executive Committee’s Extraordinary Virtual Meeting No. 3/2025, held on 23 June 2025. The meeting was chaired by SSFA President Gen. Augustino Maduot Parek.
The amendments focused on Article 52 and Article 83.1(a) of the SSFA General Regulations (originally enacted in 2012 and revised in 2019).
These articles govern player transfer and registration periods as well as the rules around player suspensions due to yellow card accumulation.
Under the revised rules, the player registration and transfer windows have been extended.
The main transfer window, which previously ran from 1st to 30th June, has now been extended by one month and will run from 1st June to 30th July. Similarly, the mid-season registration window has been extended from 20th to 30th December to now run from 20th December to 20th January.
The federation says these changes are designed to give clubs more flexibility and sufficient time to finalize contracts and player transfers. The extension is also expected to reduce logistical and administrative pressure on both clubs and players.
In addition, a key change was made to Article 83.1(a), which deals with disciplinary action due to yellow card accumulation. Under the previous rule, a player would be suspended after receiving two yellow cards.
The new regulation raises the threshold to three yellow cards before a one-match suspension is triggered. This change aims to align domestic rules with international football standards and reduce the frequency of suspensions.
SSFA Secretary General Mr. Victor Lawrence Lual explained that the amendments are part of ongoing reforms to ensure South Sudanese football remains fair, competitive, and consistent with global practices. He called on all football clubs, officials, and players to familiarize themselves with the updated regulations.
The changes take effect immediately and will be applied in the upcoming football season. All affiliated clubs have been advised to review the new rules and make necessary adjustments to their operations.
