(WAU) – Construction of a new airport terminal has begun at Wau Airport in Western Bahr el Ghazal State, marking one of the biggest upgrades to aviation facilities outside the capital in years.
The South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority held a ground breaking ceremony at the site, followed by an inspection of the Wau Radar Station. The work is expected to improve passenger handling and air transport services across the northwest of the country.
Officials said the project forms part of a wider drive to bring airport infrastructure up to modern standards. The Civil Aviation Authority thanked partners, state authorities and staff for their support.
Governor of Western Bahr el Ghazal State, the Minister of Transport, the Undersecretary and the Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, Dr Ayiei Garang, all attended the ceremony.
The launch in Wau comes as Juba International Airport separately announced the start of shuttle bus services between the terminal and aircraft.

The buses are meant to provide safe and reliable movement for passengers while raising comfort and efficiency at the country’s busiest airport. The Juba airport leadership said the service is part of a continuing effort to improve the travel experience.
No cost was given for either project.
