(JUBA) – Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil has approved a draft mining regulation aimed at bringing order, accountability and economic value to the state’s growing artisanal mining sector.
The draft was presented by the State Committee on the Assessment and Regulation of Artisanal Mining Activities, which has been evaluating mining operations across various sites in the region.
In a press statement released Monday afternoon, the governor praised the committee’s efforts, describing the document as a crucial step toward strengthening governance in the mining sector and boosting economic diversification.
“This is an important framework that will guide the state towards maximizing its natural resources responsibly,” Governor Adil noted, while commending the committee for its work.
Adil subsequently endorsed the draft and directed the State Minister of Trade and Industry to fast-track its implementation, signaling urgency in putting the new regulatory measures into action.
The proposed regulation is expected to serve as a comprehensive legal framework governing mining activities across Central Equatoria. It outlines key provisions on inspections, licensing, environmental protection, compliance enforcement and operational oversight of mining sites.
Authorities believe the move will not only help curb illegal mining activities but also ensure that the sector contributes meaningfully to the state’s economy while safeguarding communities and the environment.
Once operational, the regulation is anticipated to usher in a more structured and transparent mining industry in Central Equatoria State.
