(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Residents of Yei River County have praised telecommunications company MTN- South Sudan for repainting the fence wall surrounding Yei Freedom Square, describing the initiative as a positive contribution to the town’s beautification efforts.
Speaking to Access Radio on Monday, Isaac Likambu, a boda-boda rider in Yei Town, said the project has significantly improved the appearance of one of the town’s key public spaces.
“This is a good development by MTN. The fence wall previously looked bad, but today it has been painted yellow and looks attractive. We are grateful to MTN for contributing to the development and beautification of Yei Town,” Likambu said.Another resident, Aisha Tumalu, also welcomed the initiative and encouraged the company to expand similar projects across the town.
“This initiative is good, and we expect MTN to do more. Many shops and public spaces are still in poor condition. We hope the company can support similar beautification efforts in other parts of the market and town centres,” she said.Tumalu further called on other companies operating in Yei to embrace their corporate social responsibility by investing in community development projects.
“Companies have a responsibility to give back to the communities where they operate. We hope other companies can follow MTN’s example and contribute to the development of Yei Town,” she added.Alice Grace, an MTN customer in Yei, appealed to the company’s management to expand its support beyond infrastructure improvements and invest in education and youth empowerment initiatives.
“MTN is an important partner in our community. We encourage them to support education through internet services, computer training programmes for students and ICT-related entrepreneurship opportunities for young people,” Grace said. The repainting of the Freedom Square fence forms part of MTN’s corporate social responsibility efforts aimed at supporting community development and improving public spaces.
