(KAJO-KEJI COUNTY) – Doctors Without Borders, known internationally as Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), is working to strengthen healthcare in Central Equatoria State by training the next generation of health professionals.
At Kajo Keji Hospital, clinical mentors are providing hands-on training to nurses, offering guidance and personalised support to improve patient care. This approach helps staff develop practical skills to meet the needs of their communities effectively, according to the medical charity.
MSF is also supporting students at the Juba College of Nursing and Midwifery (JCONAM). The organisation provides scholarships to students from remote areas and helps improve the quality of teaching.
The charity stated these investments in education and mentorship aim to strengthen South Sudan’s healthcare systems and bring better care to communities across the country.
The support comes amid a worsening humanitarian crisis in South Sudan, where overlapping challenges are leaving many people without adequate medical care. MSF reports that current responses are not meeting rising needs, highlighting the importance of improving local healthcare capacity.
A female caretaker shared her experience at the Mayen-Abun Hospital’s inpatient therapeutic feeding centre (ITFC) in September 2025:
“I came from Aweng to Mayen-Abun. It was one day walking alone with my child. It rained and the journey was difficult. I first tried to get care in Aweil, but they did not have the medicines needed, and I could not afford them. That is why I had to come here. I would rather endure the journey than see my child get worse.”
