
Ministerial Cluster Passes Gender Property Initiative/PHOTO CREDITS: Economic Cluster Office, South Sudan
(JUBA, CENTRAL EQUATORIA STATE) – The Economic Cluster, chaired by the Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Hon. Onyoti Adigo Nyikec, has passed a report promoting women’s rights to land and property, sending it to the Council of Ministers for final approval.
During the ordinary sitting, the Cluster also discussed South Sudan’s financial contribution to its membership in the World Trade Organization.
The report was presented by the Minister of Trade and Industry, Hon. Atong Kuol Manyang Juuk, who emphasised the benefits the country and its citizens could gain from the organisation.
Following the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Lily Albino Akol Akol, told the press that the Cluster had carefully considered reports from the Ministry of Land, Housing and Urban Development, led by Hon. Michael Chiangiek Geay. The report specifically addressed the promotion of women’s rights to own and inherit land and property.
Hon. Lily Akol said the Economic Cluster had passed the report to the Council of Ministers, where it will receive final approval and endorsement, marking an important step towards strengthening gender equality in land and property access in South Sudan.
A statement from the Office of Vice President, Economic Cluster said the decision reflects the government’s commitment to supporting women’s economic empowerment and ensuring fair access to land and property, which is seen as a key driver for national development and social stability.
