(JUBA) – Lawmakers in Central Equatoria State have called for the urgent tabling of the 2025 to 2026 budget and stronger revenue reforms, citing delays and gaps in financial management that affect service delivery.
The Assembly Business Committee said the state faces a limited revenue base, a large informal sector, weak enforcement of tax rules and poor coordination among institutions. Members said these challenges continue to affect public finance and development efforts.
The committee called for improved transparency in tax collection, modern systems for revenue management and stronger compliance measures.
It also urged tighter oversight of public spending through regular reporting, performance audits and stricter enforcement of financial regulations.
Officials said the delay in presenting the budget followed the late return of parliamentary sittings after a long recess, which has slowed debate and approval processes.
The committee raised these concerns during a meeting with the State Ministry of Finance, Planning and Investment in Juba.
