(JUBA) – President Salva Kiir Mayardit has called on members of the national parliament to demonstrate renewed dedication to their responsibilities and ensure their promises are translated into tangible results for the people of South Sudan.
He made the remarks during the official reopening of the first session of the Revitalised National Transitional Legislature in Juba on Wednesday, 16 July 2025.
Speaking before lawmakers, President Kiir highlighted the critical role of the legislature in shaping South Sudan’s peaceful and stable future. He urged them to serve the nation with unity, responsibility, and a strong sense of purpose as the country continues along its transitional journey toward democracy and development.
The President called for recommitment to peacebuilding, urging legislators to prioritise actions that strengthen national cohesion and resilience. He also extended an invitation to opposition groups that remain outside the current peace framework, encouraging them to embrace dialogue and reconciliation as the country prepares for its first post independence national elections in 2026.
On economic matters, President Kiir directed the national economic cluster to harmonise and standardise salary payments across all public institutions, including civil servants and organised forces. He stressed that the prompt and consistent payment of wages is essential to restoring public trust and service delivery.

The President reiterated his administration’s dedication to financial transparency and the strict enforcement of fiscal discipline. He declared the fight against corruption a national priority, describing it as a “non negotiable pillar” of South Sudan’s economic recovery and reform agenda.
