(JUBA) – South Sudan has been selected to host the 20th Regional Nile Day Celebration in Juba this year, officials confirmed during a recent Economic Cluster meeting chaired by Vice President Prof. James Wani Igga.
The meeting reviewed and passed several resolutions from ministries concerned with national infrastructure development, including contributions to the Nile Basin Initiative for 2025–2026, which South Sudan is yet to complete.
Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Hon. James Mawich, highlighted the importance of meeting these obligations to strengthen regional cooperation.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Hon. Hussein Abdulbagi Akol, requested the release of funds to support preparations for an upcoming agricultural conference and the forthcoming farming season.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning outlined a macroeconomic stabilisation project aimed at reducing costs, increasing revenue collection, and boosting the national economy.
In a related development, Senior Presidential Envoy for Special Programs, Hon. Adut Salva Kiir Mayardit, paid a courtesy call to Vice President Prof. Wani Igga on 5th January. The visit was part of the envoy’s New Year greetings and reaffirmed shared commitment to peace and national development.
Both leaders wished citizens a year of hope and emphasised the importance of maintaining stability ahead of the general elections scheduled for December 2026, which will allow South Sudanese to exercise their constitutional rights through the democratic process.
