(JUBA) – The Association for Media Development in South Sudan has expressed deep sorrow following the death of journalist Emmanuel Joseph Akile, describing the news as shocking and a major loss to the country’s media sector.
In a condolence message issued in Juba, the association extended its sincere sympathies to Mr Akile’s family and to his colleagues at Eye Radio, where he worked for several years. The association said his death has affected not only his immediate family and workplace, but also the wider media community in South Sudan.
AMDISS noted that Mr Akile was known for his strong sense of professionalism and dedication to public interest journalism. It highlighted his reporting on peace processes held in Addis Ababa in Ethiopia and on the Kenya mediated Tumaini Initiative, saying his work helped audiences better understand complex national political developments.
The association also recognised his role as a presenter of Eye Radio’s Dawn Show, which it said reached many South Sudanese across the country. According to AMDISS, his work on the programme informed, educated and positively influenced listeners during a challenging period for the nation.
AMDISS stated that Mr Akile’s passing has left a clear gap within the media fraternity, adding that his contribution to journalism and media development in South Sudan will be remembered. The association called on journalists, media institutions and the public to stand in solidarity with the bereaved family during this difficult time.
The message concluded with a prayer for the late journalist, wishing him eternal peace and comfort for those mourning his loss.
