(JUBA) – Emmanuel Joseph Akile, a long serving journalist and presenter of Eye Radio’s The Dawn Show, has died at Gudele Hospital in Juba after a brief two day hospital stay.
Akile had been presenting the flagship morning programme since 2016 and was widely recognised for his reporting on national issues. During his career, he covered events including the Addis Ababa peace talks and the Tumaini Initiative in Nairobi.
He had begun his Christmas holiday leave last week when he fell ill. Earlier on the day of his death, a delegation of Eye Radio staff visited him in the Intensive Care Unit to offer support and deliver a medical fund provided by the station’s management.
