(LAINYA COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Lainya County, Hon. Robert Lasu John Morris, has officially launched the second Bishop’s Annual Youth Tournament for 2026 at Lainya Freedom Square, marking the start of a major youth sports event in Central Equatoria State.
The tournament is organised by the Catholic Diocese of Yei and is being held under the theme Let the youth be agents of peace and unity. The event runs from 10 to 19 January 2026 and includes a range of sporting and social activities aimed at engaging young people from across the region.
Speaking at the launch, Commissioner Morris emphasised the importance of empowering young people and recognised the role of sports in promoting peaceful coexistence and unity within communities. He said youth participation in organised activities was essential for building positive values and encouraging cooperation.
The Commissioner urged all participants to observe fair play and teamwork throughout the competition. He said sports provided an opportunity for young people to demonstrate discipline, respect and responsibility, qualities that contribute to social harmony in South Sudan.
The tournament brings together youth teams from various counties across Central Equatoria State, offering a platform for them to showcase their talents and skills while interacting with peers from different communities.
The county organisers say the annual tournament aims to strengthen relationships among young people and support peace efforts through positive engagement. Local leaders attending the event noted that such initiatives play an important role in keeping youth involved in constructive activities.
The Bishop’s Annual Youth Tournament has become one of the major youth events in the area, reflecting growing collaboration between religious institutions, local authorities and communities in supporting youth development and peace building in South Sudan.
