(JUBA/YEI) – Communities from Yei River County have met Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony of Central Equatoria State to request support for road repairs and the revival of coffee farming schemes in their area.
The visit took place on 13 December 2025 at the Governor’s residence in Juba. Community leaders expressed congratulations to Governor Adil on his reappointment and used the meeting to discuss development priorities for Yei River County.
Delegates highlighted the urgent need to repair internal roads, including the Yei-Lasu road and to complete the Oyisa Bridge.
“We ask the government to prioritise the repair of our roads and the completion of Oyisa Bridge. This will help our farmers and traders access markets safely,” said one community representative.
Agriculture, particularly coffee farming, was another key concern. Communities asked for the revival of local coffee plantations and support for farmers through the provision of seeds, tools, and technical guidance.
“Reviving coffee plantations and providing tools to farmers will create jobs, increase incomes, and encourage refugees to return,” said a youth leader from Yei.
Governor Adil responded that road works and agricultural support require collaboration between the government and the people.
“We cannot achieve development without the cooperation of our communities,” he said. “We will prioritise security and infrastructure so that projects like the Juba-Yei-Kaya-Maridi road and agricultural support reach the people.”
He also noted that the Juba-Yei-Kaya-Maridi road project is expected to start soon, which will improve connectivity and trade in the region. Adil stressed that improving infrastructure is a key priority for his administration alongside enhancing local agriculture.
The delegation included Members of Parliament, government ministers, youth and women representatives, elders, civil society members and traditional performers. They brought messages of hope and continued support to Governor Adil while emphasising practical development needs.
