(JUBA)-South Sudan’s National Security Service (NSS) said a fire that engulfed part of its headquarters, commonly known as the “Blue House,” was likely caused by an electrical fault, and no casualties were reported.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the NSS said the fire broke out at approximately 12:15 a.m. at the main building of the Internal Security Bureau (ISB) headquarters, which houses the bureau’s Administration Division.
The agency said all personnel were safely accounted for following the incident.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the fire was likely caused by an electrical fault,” the statement said.
The NSS said a full investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the fire and assess the extent of damage to the building.
Despite the incident, the agency said its core operations and national security functions continue uninterrupted.
“The Internal Security Bureau wishes to reassure the public that its core operations and national security functions remain fully operational and unaffected,” the statement added.
The bureau added that it remains committed to safeguarding South Sudan’s national security interests and fulfilling its constitutional mandate.
The extent of damage to the building was not immediately disclosed, and authorities did not provide an estimate of the losses. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, NSS added.
