(JUBA) – The Governor of Central Equatoria State has called on families and communities to embrace peace, unity and contentment during the festive season, despite ongoing economic challenges facing South Sudan.
Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony made the appeal on Sunday 14 December 2025 while attending the Third Sunday of Advent Mass at St Paul Chapel of the National Major Seminary in Juba. The service was presided over by Bishop Alex Lodiong Sakor Eyobo of the Catholic Diocese of Yei and animated by the Paraclete Choir from the same diocese.
Addressing the congregation, Governor Adil stressed the importance of cooperation between the church and the government in spreading messages of peace and national unity. He praised Bishop Lodiong for consistently encouraging hope and reconciliation among believers.
The Governor urged families to maintain togetherness and mutual understanding during the Christmas season, noting that economic hardship should not weaken social harmony. He assured the congregation that the state government would continue working closely with faith institutions to advance peace and reconciliation initiatives across Central Equatoria.
Hon Josephine Napwon Cosmos, a National Member of Parliament and former Minister of Environment, called on citizens and believers to support the Governor as he leads the state towards improved security and development following his re appointment. She said unity between leaders and the public is key to stability in South Sudan.
Bishop Alex Lodiong Sakor Eyobo reaffirmed the church’s readiness to work with the state government. He encouraged state leaders to visit their constituencies regularly so they can better understand the living conditions of people in rural areas.
