(MOROBO COUNTY) — Morobo County Commissioner Joseph Mawa John Ukuba has called for an end to tribalism and discrimination, urging residents to fully embrace peace and unity as efforts continue to stabilize communities in the county.
Mawa delivered this message during a diocesan thanksgiving and fundraising prayer event held over the weekend at the county headquarters.
During the address, he emphasized that there is “no room for tribalism and discrimination,” declaring “enough for war, yes for peace,” as he called on communities to reject division and prioritize reconciliation.
He stressed that peace cannot be achieved through individual efforts alone, noting that it requires collective responsibility from both leaders and citizens.
The commissioner further noted that his administration has continued to advocate for peaceful coexistence since taking office. He added that ongoing engagement between government, religious leaders, and communities remains key to sustaining stability.
Mawa also expressed optimism about the security situation in Morobo County, stating that conditions are gradually improving while encouraging residents to support peacebuilding efforts and avoid actions that could fuel conflict.
During the same event, the preacher of the day, Rt. Rev. Levi Marandulu, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Yei, urged churches to reposition themselves as drivers of development and self-reliance.
He discouraged dependency on foreign donations and encouraged that communities have the capacity and responsibility to work for their own progress using the resources and skills available to them.
Both religious and government leaders used the occasion to call for unity, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence among the people of Morobo County, Central Equatoria State, and across South Sudan.
The event brought together delegates from Juba, Yei, neighboring Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, alongside representatives from different religious denominations in Morobo County.
The calls for unity come as Morobo County has for years faced recurrent insecurity linked to tensions between different armed groups in the area.
In recent years, local authorities and community leaders have repeatedly emphasized the need for peace consolidation, as insecurity has disrupted livelihoods, farming activities, and mobility in some parts of the county.
