(MOROBO COUNTY) – Authorities in Morobo County of Central Equatoria State on Wednesday relaunched the reconstruction of the Supiri Bridge in Kenidila Boma, Gulumbi Payam.
The bridge is a key link connecting Gulumbi Payam in Morobo County to Panyume Payam and neighboring Kajo-Keji County, serving as an important route for movement of people and goods.
Construction works on the bridge had stalled nearly two years ago due to insecurity and clashes in the area. However, officials say the resumption of the project signals a return of relative peace and stability.
The reconstruction is being funded by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
Omonyo Walter, the site engineer overseeing the project, confirmed that the construction company is fully prepared to complete the work within the scheduled timeframe.
Morobo County Commissioner Joseph Mawa Okuba welcomed the deployment of machinery and materials to the site and commended the contractor for restarting the project.
He also called on the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) to ensure adequate security for workers and safeguard the construction site.
Commissioner Mawa further expressed appreciation to IOM for supporting the project, noting that the bridge will play a critical role in improving connectivity between the two neighboring counties.
