
Mourners receiving the body of late Gama Diodone in Yei town
(YEI RIVER COUNTY) The body of Late Hon. Gama Diodone Sterecio arrived on Thursday in his hometown of Yei for final respects and burial at his home in Lomuku One, Yei on Thursday.
Family members, community leaders, colleagues, and religious leaders gathered Thursday morning in Yei town to receive the body. It was later escorted by the Yei Brass Band to the Episcopal Church of South Sudan, Immanuel Cathedral, where prayers were conducted before the body was taken to his home for final burial preparations scheduled for Friday.
Late Hon. Gama previously served as the Head Teacher of Immanuel Model Primary School from 2010 to 2014. At the time of his death, he was serving the government as the Executive Director for the Central Equatoria State Revenue Insurance and Regulatory Authority in Juba.
Speaking to Access Radio, some students from Immanuel Model Secondary School expressed their sorrow following the death of their former head teacher.
Patrick Alafi Joseph said he was deeply saddened by the loss.
“On my feeling about the death of Mr. Gama, I feel very sad for losing an important person. When death happens in our community or even in the country at large, people begin to wonder what might be happening,” he said.
Another student, Reta Santos, said she felt great pain after hearing the news.
“I feel pity that we have lost a big and good leader who was guiding us in the primary section. I pray that God gives us other good leaders and that He blesses his family,” she explained.
Elijayo Yama Amos also shared his grief.
“I am very sad about the death of our head teacher. I feel lonely and heartbroken. I pray that God protects his family and may his soul rest in peace,” he said.
Late Hon. Gama died on Saturday, March 7, 2026, due to complications from an illness.
He was born on December 16, 1977, and died at the age of 49.
