(JUBA COUNTY) – Authorities in Juba County has on Tuesday, officially launched a new sanitation initiative in Luri Payam aimed at improving waste management, public health, and environmental protection.
The project was unveiled by County Commissioner Samuel Emiliano Wani Pitia in partnership with Otavianos General Trading Co. Ltd.
Speaking at the launch, Commissioner Pitia called on residents to take an active role in maintaining cleanliness through proper waste disposal. He stressed that a clean environment is a shared responsibility and highlighted that the project would not only enhance sanitation but also create job opportunities for young people. He further encouraged tree planting as part of efforts to build a greener and more sustainable future.
Luri Payam Director Ezbon Pitia Francis urged community members to cooperate with waste collection teams and avoid indiscriminate dumping, particularly along roads and in public spaces. He emphasized the importance of unity, especially among youth, in ensuring the initiative’s success.
Representing the partner company, Otavianos General Trading Co. Ltd., Mr. James Gatluak David Deng reaffirmed the firm’s commitment to delivering professional services. He encouraged young people to seize employment opportunities created by the project and pledged the company’s collaboration with local authorities to address waste management challenges.
Community representative Daniel Dokolo Kumunde welcomed the initiative, expressing confidence that cooperation between residents, leaders, and the company would lead to a cleaner and healthier environment.
The event concluded with a joint commitment from county officials, community leaders, residents, and the private sector to promote cleanliness, environmental conservation, and sustainable waste management across Luri Payam and the wider Juba County.
